ODOUR CONTROL AT A BIODIESEL PLANT

Customized ozone solution from Primozone proves to be the key to removing odour created by biodiesel plant in Lithuania.

Customer is an environmentally friendly producer of biodiesel. The biodiesel is produced from vegetable (canola) oil and during the process of pressing the oil a distinctive smell of hydrogen sulfide is formed. This distinctive smell is a nuisance to the neighbourhood as the plant is situated in a densely populated area in the port of Klaipeda, Lithuania.

Removal of H2S

At the plant, they had problems with the biodiesel odour from hydrogen sulfide and made a thorough investigation into how to solve the problem. The result showed that ozone provided the most efficient solution.

Other methods like scrubbers and bio-filters were also evaluated. The scrubbers proved not to solve the problem while the bio-filters were both less efficient and more expensive than ozone.

Ozone biodiesel odour solution

Primozone created, together with customer, a compact ozone solution that could be fitted into the existing premises. A minimum amount of ozone is blended into the plant’s exhaust. The exhaust is then diverted into a reaction chamber where the odour particles are degraded.

The ozone generator has spare upgrade capacity if customer would want to increase plant production in the future without replacing their odour control system.
