Ozone Wastewater Treatment

Ozone forms naturally in the atmosphere as a colourless gas with a strong odour. Ozone is a triatomic, allotropic form of oxygen with the chemical formula O3 and a molecular weight of 38. It is an unstable gas that decomposes into molecular oxygen at standard atmospheric temperature and pressure.

With a redox potential of 2.07, this extremely powerful oxidant has numerous commercial and industrial applications. It is commonly used in the treatment of potable and non-potable water, as well as as an industrial oxidant. Ozone’s significant oxidising power and molecular oxygen by-products make it the first choice for oxidation or disinfection.

Wastewater from an industrial facility may contain BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), colour, phenol, cyanide, cleaning agents and a range of chemicals. Ozone wastewater applications, combined with UV and other physical, chemical or biological processes, provide excellent results in treating such complex wastes due to their high oxidation ability. It reduces the TOC (Total Organic Carbon) by decomposing organic matter in water.
